REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice presidential candidates Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin appreciated the appearance of Mahfud MD as a debate opponent at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (21/1/2024). He even thanked him during a press conference after the debate.

According to Cak Imin, Mahfud was a good opponent of debate. For this reason, he considered the opponents of the debate to be friends thinking about solutions and putting forward arguments, which end up being the best path for the nation.

“Thank you. May this debate be awakened to be a force to buffer authoritatively from the ideas of our minds and ideals,” he said during a news conference after the debate on Sunday evening.

In that press conference, Cak Imin simply thanked the couple from Ganjar Pranowo. No thanks to Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Cak Imin stated that Mahfud had been a prolific debater friend, who maintained the credibility of the debate on that night. Thus, there are new ideas that are better for the vision of the Indonesian nation in the future.

Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan judged, Cak Imin and Mahfud both compactly maintained the flow of the debate. This is because the debate is a process of shared thought, in which the opponent of the debate should be considered a thinking friend.

“So Mr. Mahfud kept the degree of debate an honorable process. It's both honor and honor,” Anies said after the debate at JCC Senayan on Sunday.

He believes that in the debate there are certainly differences of opinion. However, that difference should be conveyed with a smile, respect, and mutual respect.
